    The goal Students are tought parasitic infections and diseases of domestic animals: etiology, epizootiology/epidemiology, pathogenesis and pathology, clinical symptoms, diagnostic procedures, differential diagnosis, therapeutic approaches and contemporary means of prophylaxis.
    The outcome On successfully completing the course, students - are capable of completing the diagnostics of the most important animal endo and ectoparasitic diseases using direct parasitic methods, - have learnt the epizootiology/epidemiology of parasitic infections, - know to choose adequate therapy in accordance with the degree of parasitic infection and its prevalence, - can plan the prophylactic measures in accordance with the given conditions.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Main characteristics of infections caused by protozoa, helminths and arthropods. Babesiosis, theileriosis and other haemoprotozoan infections of domestic animals. Bovine and avian tritrichomonas infection. Histomonosis. Coccidiosis of mammals: equine, cattle, small ruminants, pig, rabbit and carnivores. Coccidiosis of the chicken and other birds. Cryptosporidiosis. Neosporosis. Sarcocystosis. Toxoplasmosis. Balantidiosis. Trematode infections of ruminants (fasciolosis, dicrocoeliosis and paramphistomosis). Equine and bovine tapeworm infections. Tapeworm infections of carnivores. Metacestodoses. Ascarididosis of the pig, horse, cattle, carnivores and birds. Larva migrans syndrome. Strongyloidosis. Hookworm infections. Whipworm infections. Oesophagostomosis. Onchocercosis. Dirofilariosis. Thelasiosis. Trichinellosis. Parasitic gastroenteritis of ruminants. Equine roundworm infections: oxyurosis, strongylidosis, parafilariosis. Porcine verminous gastritis. Heterakidosis. Amidostomosis. Lungworm infections of ruminants, the horse and pig. Ectoparasitic infections of domestic animals: demodicosis and mange. Significance of ticks, fleas, chewing and biting lice, mosquitoes, blackflies, biting midges and sandflies to animals and humans. External myasis. Internal myiases (Hypoderma, Gasterophilus and Oestrus infections).
    Contents of exercises Introduction to the diagnostics of parasitic diseases. Qualitative methods of coprodiagnostics. McMaster method. Diagnosis of babesiosis and coccidiosis. Diagnosis of main helminth infections of ruminants. Diagnostics of main helminth infections of equids, the pig, carnivores, poultry and the rabbit. Diagnosis of mange and demodicosis.
