    The goal Introduction to the basics of Animal breeding, methods of selection, methods of breeding and effects of planned selection on production and health of the domestic animals.
    The outcome Student has to learn the basics of animal breeding and production of different species of farm and social animals. Student has to be enabled to apply the procedures of animal handling and the methods of assessment of constitution, condition and health status and to estimate the breeding value of the animal in concern with breed standard.

    Contents of lectures Introduction to the animal breeding and its importance,types of production.Definition of breed,general characteristics of the breed.Variability.The impact of ambiental factors on health and production.Constitution,condition,temperament and mind-frame.The effects of selection on genes,Selection based on the constitution and production.Selection upon pedigree and progeny.Application of genetic markers in selection.Methods of breeding: purebreeding,crossbreeding,outbreeding and heterosis.Modern biotechnological procedures applied in animal breeding.Estimation of production and reproduction value.Economical value,production types and breeds of cattle,milk and meat production ,methods of breeding,reproduction of cattle and calf rearing selection.The importance and status of pig production,production types of pigs,pig breeds,meat and lard production,reproduction of pigs and rearing of piglets,breeding methods and selection.Economical importance of sheep breeding,production types and breeds of sheep,reproduction of sheep and lamb rearing,methods of breeding,selection.Economical importance of goat breeding,goat breeds,milk production,methods of breeding,selection,reproduction of goats and rearing of kids,Poultry,production of eggs and meat,production types and breeds of poultry,reproduction of poultry,hatching and rearing of chickens,hybridization,hybrids,selection of resistant animals.Rabbit breeds,reproduction,methods of breeding,selection and exploitation of rabbits.
